As a team, Zahra, a native Kuwaiti, and Michelle, an expat married to a Kuwaiti, have partnered in efforts to create Kuwaiti Simplified, a conversational Kuwaiti Arabic program with you in mind. Our mission is to offer a unique membership that encourages and fosters a love for learning Kuwaiti Arabic.
We help expat women married to Kuwaiti men go from feeling isolated and frustrated due to language barriers to confidently participating in Kuwaiti Arabic conversations, so that they can connect more deeply with their husband’s family and community, fostering a sense of belonging and enhancing their familial relationships.
Our mission was born from a deep desire to fully embrace Kuwaiti life, build relationships, and engage in meaningful conversations.
Being married to a Kuwaiti comes with unique challenges. One significant struggle is connecting with family members who exclusively speak Kuwaiti, often leading to feelings of isolation during family gatherings. The sense of being surrounded yet uninvolved can be profoundly lonely, exacerbated by the shame of not understanding the local language. The difficulty in finding personalized language instruction for expats compounds these challenges.
By reaching out to the community, we have listened to and understood the challenges faced by non-Kuwaiti-speaking women married to Kuwaiti men. Our research and the success of our classes have enabled us to tailor our course specifically for expat women in these circumstances. Our goal is to make it easier for individuals to overcome language barriers and embark on the journey of learning Kuwaiti Arabic with support and guidance.
